Employment Readiness Specialist/ Mobility Coach, The Prosperity Center of Greater Jackson at Midtown Partners, Inc.
Tonja Murphy is the Employment Readiness Specialist/Mobility Coach for The Prosperity Center of Greater Jackson at Midtown Partners, Inc. In this role, she helps to accomplish the Prosperity Center’s mission of promoting economic empowerment and self-sufficiency of low and moderate-income families through education, training and mentoring. More directly, Tonja facilitates employment readiness and life skills instruction and provides individual coaching to participants.
Prior to joining The Prosperity Center in 2014, Tonja was the Middle School Mentoring and Youth Employment Coordinator for Operation Shoestring, a non-profit organization that provides academic, social and emotional support to children and their families. There she developed an after school academic and mentoring program for middle school aged youth. Before joining Operation Shoestring, she was Director of Mentoring Services for Lutheran Episcopal Services of Mississippi (LESM).
Her professional work focuses on a holistic approach to strategic development, implementation and outcomes of programs for youth and adults. Tonja is the founder of The Ladybug Club, a mentoring program for girls age 6-16 living in the Midtown community and the greater Jackson area. The program encourages and promotes positive self-esteem, confidence, the value of education and being civic minded.
Ms. Murphy’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from Jackson State University in professional interdisciplinary studies, with a concentration in social and behavioral sciences. She is currently pursuing certification in Life Coaching.
