Andrew Volmert, PhD

Prior to joining FrameWorks, Andrew Volmert taught at Georgetown University and held appointments as postdoctoral research associate and visiting scholar with the Political Theory Project at Brown University. A political scientist by training, Drew’s areas of expertise include political culture, hermeneutics, semantics, rhetoric, nationalism, and democratic deliberation. His past research explored how the meanings embedded in political traditions can facilitate or impede productive political argument. This work examined the capacity of historical exemplars to provide a common political idiom in pluralistic societies and to enable constructive engagement across ideological and cultural divides. His research has appeared in Political Studies, Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, and The Good Society. Drew received an AB in religious studies from Brown University and a PhD in political science from Yale University.
