Drew Volmert, PhD
Director of Research, FrameWorks Institute
Drew leads the research team at the FrameWorks Institute—a multi-disciplinary, non-profit communications research organization whose pioneering work was recognized in 2015 with the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. A political scientist by training, Drew supervises a team of PhD-trained social scientists that includes linguists, sociologists, anthropologists, psychologists, and cognitive scientists. Drew and his team use a multi-method research process to understand the deep assumptions and tacit understandings that structure public thinking and to identify and test ways of reframing social issues that can drive change. In addition to overseeing the work of the team, Drew has personally led research on issues including the economy, climate change, and poverty.
Drew’s work has appeared in publications including the Stanford Social Innovation Review, Political Studies, and The Good Society. Prior to joining FrameWorks, he taught at Georgetown University and held appointments as Postdoctoral Research Associate and Visiting Scholar with the Political Theory Project at Brown University. He holds an AB in religious studies from Brown University and a PhD in political science from Yale University.
